Multi-Day Kayak Expedition in Sitka, Alaska — Sea Kayaking the South Baranof Wilderness
Trade roads for channels on this six-day sea-kayak expedition out of Sitka. Paddle reefs and fjords, camp on remote beaches, and watch for whales, sea lions and brown bear signs while guides share local cultural and natural history.
The Experience
Before You Go
Check tidal windows before big crossings
Open-water and reef passes change with the tide; follow guide timing and expect altered currents and swell during ebb or flood.
Pack waterproof layers and dry bags
Summer temperatures are cool and spray is constant; store spare clothing and electronics in reliable dry bags.
Wear secure, grippy footwear for landings
Many shoreings are rocky or shelly—closed-toe sandals or light hiking shoes speed shore explorations and protect toes.
Respect wildlife distances
Keep distance from haul-outs and shorelines where bears or sea lions feed; allow animals an escape route and never approach pups.
