The Experience

Before You Go

Sign the waiver early

Complete the liability waiver online before arrival to speed check-in and avoid missing boarding; arrive 30 minutes early.

Bring reef-safe sunscreen and a rash guard

The sun on the boat and in the water is intense — a lightweight sun shirt protects skin and the reef.

Hydrate and snack beforehand

Although snacks and water are provided, a light meal and extra water before boarding help prevent seasickness on choppy crossings.

Know the ladder rules

You must be able to climb a vertical ladder unaided — wear fins back-to-front only when instructed and use the crew’s assistance when reboarding.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Watch the ride out for spinner dolphins — they sometimes bow-ride if conditions are right
  • If the captain calls Turtle Town as an alternative, look for green sea turtles resting in shallow lava ledges

Wildlife

  • Green sea turtle (honu)
  • Reef fish such as parrotfish and surgeonfish

Conservation Note

Molokini has strict anchoring and visitor limits to protect coral and fish; practice no-touch snorkeling and use reef-safe products to minimize impact.

Molokini is the eroded remnant of a tuff cone formed during a series of eruptions tens of thousands of years ago; the islet has cultural significance to native Hawaiians and is now protected as a marine conservation area.
