The Experience

Before You Go

Arrive early for check-in

Plan to arrive 20–30 minutes before your scheduled time to complete waivers, weight checks and get fitted for gear.

Weight & age restrictions

All riders must be between 100–260 lbs and at least 12 years old—staff will weigh and refuse riders outside the range for safety.

Secure loose items

Phones and sunglasses should be tethered or left in your vehicle—loose items can be lost or injure someone below.

Footwear & clothing

Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and layered clothing; the canyon cools quickly once shaded and a light windbreaker is useful.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Drive to Fayette Station Road Overlook for quieter gorge views and a picnic away from the bridge crowds
  • Visit Cathedral Falls trailhead for a short waterfall walk before or after your zip tour

Wildlife

  • Turkey and white-tailed deer
  • Red-tailed hawks hunting the thermals over the gorge

Conservation Note

New River Gorge National Park emphasizes Leave No Trace practices—stay on trails, pack out trash, and follow guide instructions to protect fragile cliffside vegetation.

The New River Gorge was a key corridor for rail and coal through the 19th and 20th centuries; the modern outdoor economy grew as rail declined and recreation found the cliffs and river.
